A Company That Should've Stayed a Mom 'n' Pop Shop

Pros

The employee benefits and PTO policy are second to none at Keypath and unusually generous in this day and age. Those are a big part of the appeal. They also hire world-class talent -- many former colleagues remain good personal friends. It's just a shame that the company chews through them at such a high rate. When I started, Keypath was still a small- mid-sized company, but the business grew at a fantastic rate. Any organization that "corporatizes" is going to alienate some longer-term or older employees -- goes with the territory. I don't fault Keypath for that. Growth is good! But they have some huge problems in middle management that are stunting that growth and profitability process by focusing on the wrong things (see below).

Cons

Breathtaking incompetence in middle management. A fundamental misunderstanding of data analysis -- this is a company run by VCs in a board room who don't understand how the "sausage" is made, fine, but middle management should understand thoroughly what their teams are doing. And they don't. A company this size shouldn't be generating multiple Excel spreadsheets with the same data sliced 100 different ways to look "busy" -- there were much better solutions years ago. I spent the majority of my time grinding through the same numbers over and over again in useless reports vs. doing the work I was hired to do (which made the real numbers suffer as a result). Also a "Church of Scientology" culture. From what I'm hearing, employees are expected to work 12-13 hour days + weekends and somehow you're a failure as a human being if you can't hack that. No corporate job is worth that, especially for family people with kids at home during a pandemic. I had a former colleague ask me, without irony, "did your life end when you left Keypath?" Nope. No, it didn't.

Thank you for your comments and appreciate the honesty. I am very sorry your recent experience was not positive. I do care how everyone is treated and do expect/want employees to have work/life balance. We are a better company when people feel they can do both. Even though I hate even one person (or as you said others) to feel the push, push, push..... Growth is never an excuse. As you know I do talk to folks almost everyday across the company and receive positive comments, but I am not naïve to think we can't continue to improve. Thanks for the reminder..... I am always happy to speak, please email me at steve.fireng@keypathedu.com so I can get more details. I wish you all the best Steve

Pros

- great on boarding even whilst remote - enjoyable job if you like talking to people - high quality courses and reputable RTOs - diverse and inclusive culture - potential to earn good commission if you overachieve - pretty high quality and amount of leads from marketing - Keypath is a company with integrity and there is no issues with misleading students or applying high pressure sales tactics which is good - good collaboration across teams - targets are fair - not a call centre environment, there are kpis but if you hit your targets they aren’t scrutinised - company is really succeeding and is set to continue to grow - recession friendly role - there will always be a demand for online education - days are varied - you won’t be on the phone the whole day - great HR team with regular initiatives - Ryan (Australian CEO) and upper management are absolutely fantastic - very down to earth and personable - it appears they have a modern approach to remote work and plan to (hopefully) allow staff flexibility even after covid. This is a massive plus to me as I love working from home and find I actually get more done. - sometimes as an incentive you get to leave early on Friday’s

Cons

Only two things: 1. The base is a little low although this can be made up for with commissions if you smash your targets (which are reasonable) 2. Unfortunately a big detractor (would have given 5 stars if this wasn’t an issue): there is blatant favouritism from my manager towards a couple of select members of the team. This is evident from certain individuals getting shout outs and praise but others that perform well getting skipped, talking about social catch ups outside the work that other team members were not invited to and also responsiveness. I often do not get a response to questions/requests and have only had one proper coaching session with my manager and feedback on two calls whereas the other newer staff mentioned they received regular coaching and feedback on calls. I feel uncomfortable raising this as it may be unintentional bias and not something she is aware of. I will document and raise with HR if things escalate - which hopefully they won’t! Such a shame as other than this keypath is pretty perfect!

Thank you for the very balanced comments. First, very glad overall your experience is positive and you noted so many positive comments about leadership, our culture, work from home environment, and performance . I do appreciate the honesty with the comments on favoritism which obviously we do believe there is any place for this, either real or perceived. While I know bringing up can be difficult, I would suggest you have a conversation with your leadership. We do not want anyone to feel that way and the best way to solve is to bring up directly. We want everyone to feel treated as equals! I wish you all the best and thanks again for bringing up areas of positive and a few areas for us to improve with your experience. Thanks Steve

The pay is very fair and the culture is the best part. I would highly recommend this company to anyone.
