Pros

Creativity, culture, benefits (401k, medical, dental, vision), room rates at other hotels

Cons

Unrealistic expectations, poor work life balance, lower pay, conflicting leadership between ownership group and Kimpton corporate management, limited staffing resources due to limited staffing model, different (lesser) benefits for restaurant employees vs hotel employees

Pros

Kimpton, as a parent company, embrace the "boutique hotel" atmosphere by encouraging the individuality of employees; acknowledging the CR benefits of employing individuals from a broad range of cultural upbringing, personality types, and defining qualities... rather than clones of a corporate ideal. After a lengthy period of time and proven commitment to the company, there is the possibility of acquiring a corporate "Mentor" as a guide of sorts to help you develop within the hospitality field. If you choose to continue your education within the field, there is also a decent tuition reimbursement benefit. Though the employee discount isn't great, no matter how many times they say employees stay free, its based on availability (never) and negotiating blackout dates. However, from a guest perspective, i have yet to stay at a kimpton hotel that wasn't quickly added to my list of favorite hotels......From the amazingly restored old buildings the propery uses to the thread count of the sheets...to the glass of decent champagne and chocolate covered strawberry waiting for me at check-in. Its worth the $$$ for the stay.

Cons

Employee communication between departments is horrible. My second day on the job i was informed of the "warring relationship" between the FoH Guest Services and BofH Restaurant staff.....come to find out could have (and was temporarily) been pacified by simply writing notes of relevant info to be passed on between the overnight & AM shifts. The same simple and COMMON SENSE strategy was in great need throughout the departments. Its like being in elementary or high school and trying to explain to one clique the benefits of interacting with subdivided classmates.
