Kohl's

Pros

Kohl's was a nice place to work at. The energy was always high and the store management always wanted to help. It was a great customer service learning experience, because you deal with large amounts of people every day.

Cons

Little upward mobility. I saw people that had been working there for 5-6 years that were making nearly the same minimum wage that I was making.

Pros

The constant evolution of Kohl's alone is motivating and intriguing. Since I began it was very "one note" and stagnant. The company has taken great leaps to change and keep up with the progressive retail industry. Kohl's is no longer afraid of change and it makes for a very fast pace, challenging environment. You never know what each day will bring you and it keeps you on your toes.

Cons

Depending on what brand/department you work in, there is a great disparity in responsibility for roles across the board. However, the company does not match your salary to the level of responsibility. Resulting in a great disparity in work life balance with zero compensation for those who work in larger volume areas who by default have to take on more work.

Pros

Employee discounts were nice. Learned a lot from co-workers and upper level associates. Close to home for commuting. No parking fees.

Cons

Tons of corporate politics and gossip. Work/life balance isn't there, although they claim to have one. Gender bias toward females. Too many senior executives and over-worked mid-level associates. Promotions not based on knowledge & experience.
