Pros

OK discount Hires seventeen year olds, so I could work while in high school Thorough cash register training, was confident in what I was doing Fairly lenient with time off (needed to take a few months off over the summer, management was ok with this)

Cons

Huge store, always a huge mess to clean up. Fitting rooms were the worst. Management was rude and distant from their employees. I had nothing in common with most of the workers, rarely interacted with anyone else anyway. Unreasonable goals based on who you could get to sign up for the Kohl's credit card (which has a terrible interest rate, don't get it), way too much stress and pressure placed on the cashiers to do this. Discount not enough to justify working there for longer than necessary (15% on softlines, 10% hardlines). Overall: I had no idea what was going on with the store, how it was run, had only a vague idea of the chain of command, too much stress for such a low paying job. $7/hour/ Hated it.

Pros

If you like fast-paced environments where you are always engaging with people, retail gives you that. The discount is generous and associate shop days double it's value. Additionally, part-time help are eligible for benefits after a year - a rare commodity.

Cons

The workload is intense, which makes it difficult to complete all the tasks that need to happen daily in running the store. Corporate often changes the workload schedule at the last minute, causing shifts in management's schedule. This makes it hard to maintain the work-life balance corporate stresses is a priority.
