Pros

The one thing I truly enjoy about working at Kohl's is some of the awesome people I work with. What you have to keep in mind is that it is retail so there are going to be challenges. If you enjoy working with people this may be a job for you. Scheduling is flexible for part time associates. This is an excellent job for someone who is in school that may be living at home without a lot of bills to pay. The Associate discount is fair, it was just raised to 15% on everything and there are special days every few months where it is doubled to 30% When i first started working at Kohl's I was very surprised that the discount even applies to clearance items.

Cons

There are several major downsides to working at Kohl's. The pay is really very low, even by retail standards. I make hardly over minimum wage and the periodic raises seem like they will barely even keep up with the raise in minimum wage. The other downside is that if you are part time do not expect to see many hours on your schedule. Advancement opportunities are possible but unfortunately someone has to leave or be promoted in order for anything to open up.

Pros

It's a profitable, growing company with good product selection and marketing. Benefits are great if you qualify.

Cons

Unfortunately, the frontline employees are why it's so profitable and they do not get the respect or reward they earn. Most stores are severely understaffed to save on salary and the customers do not get the service they deserve. Kohls advertises itself as a department store, but does not follow through with the service that department stores are known for. Employees are worked to the bone because they will not invest the dollars in more sales staff.

Pros

Most people will say the employee discount you receive on merchandise. My feeling was lack of management allowed for tasks that needed to be completed to get completed without the hassle of a manager over your shoulder bogging down your productivity.

Cons

If you think you are important, great, but don't expect praise or even recognition on tasks that you go out of you way to complete. And I am not talking about tasks you should do as taking pride in your store, I am talking about them making you stay for overtime to complete large tasks with fellow co-workers and not even getting a thank you after. Also because management is incoherent to what is going on, don't ask to be supported in making a decision on store policy or what is good in general, you will be left hung to dry because making that dollar is more important then your value as an employee.
