Made to do a lot of work that you aren’t really paid to do
Pros
Pays alright, above the minimum wage but not great Good amount of holiday (however the holiday pay varies depending on your weekly hours
Cons
Within my store they’ve hired 3 shift leaders over an 18 month period who seemed like they had no experience and left us, leaving a young team of staff to do a lot of roles a shift leader should be doing They promise progression at interview, however they show no real signs, one colleague was doing the job of a shift leader whilst still only just above the base pay, very poor and unfair They hire managers who are ill-experienced and don’t seem to make sure they are fit for the role or are prepared for it. Never heard of a manager who takes every saturday off (typically every stores busiest day) and also a lot of favouritism. Been told by other employees that the manager had talked behind my back also, i wasnt too bothered but feel like it is very unprofessional. They offer no sick pay Breaks are ok but not great. A 6 hour + shift will entitle you to one half an hour break. They like to make staff start shifts 15 minutes later than usual now and adjust hours so your work for 5 hours 45 minutes, meaning you miss out on your break. Days when ive had to work without a break due to it being so busy, they still deduct your 30 minute pay even if you dont take the break (always take your break if possible so you aren’t being taken advantage of). If you are on a day off and someone calls in sick or they are understaffed, they often come across in a way that makes you feel guilty when they ask if you can help out.
