Harris Kills Great Companies

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

There's a small semblance of the old Wescam still around, but everyday is more of Harris' dream. L3 knew how to let companies roam, but Harris wears the pants in this merger.

Cons

Don't kid yourself, Harris aims to assimilate you into their 'profit-first, customer-maybe, employee-last' mantra. Perks are disappearing day-after-day. What is upon us is a power struggle between the old-way, which was 'do whatever it takes for the customer ("The Wescam Way") and Harris' lean, mean profit machine. In typical American Big-Business fashion, they will take your once boutique company, implement nonsense restrictions on spending, focus only on what makes money 'today' and shove their doctrine down your throat.

Pros

Ample opportunities to explore career paths. Resilient to economic disruption.

Cons

Salaries have flattened over three years, even in times of sales exceeding goals. Lean staffing problematic. Lacking continuity and common methodology in practice and training. Star performers are pressured to pick up more of the work that lesser performing employees drop, instead of simply addressing the problem.
