Pros

The people in the lab will get you through but where you start is where you will remain

Cons

No progression (worked for 4 years with no advancement outsiders constantly brought in above other staff as it saved paying raises) HR is non existent for the most of the time until a manager wants to punish then they come down like a ton of bricks. Under managers screwing their seniors no possibility to complain about ineptitude Long hours and very difficult to take breaks due to over working and use of excessive PPE Managers setting targets that are near impossible just to achieve basic bonus level Minimal (1%) pay raise versus 4-6% everywhere else in the industry

Pros

The people make the place, we are all in that boat without a paddle There are not many pros Enough said

Cons

Poor management practises Poor development plan No career structure set out in place, and the small amount that is there, is not put into practice effectively Poor pay No London weighting Poor communication Bullying not adequately dealt Encouraging to lie to UKAS but make sure you stick to the forensic code of conduct (conflicting interests) Problems are dealt with in a way that is similar to using a sledgehammer to crack a nut Very reactive than proactive Bad effect on your mental and physical well being

Pros

The people are great and the real asset to LGC. Good for experience, you get to work on multiple platforms both established and emerging technologies. Opportunities to work in collaboration with vairous pharmaceutical companies, where you can expand professional network. Then you can get a good job with the connections you've made. New sector managers are much better than ones who left company 9 months to a year ago. They are approachable and are keen to make relevant changes to improve work life at Fordham.

Cons

Absolutely awful pay, probably the worst in the industry, seriously this is no exaggeration! A starting salary for senior scientist of £27000 is an absolute disgrace. If you are promoted you will be kept at the bottom of the pay band, just to save a few quid. Insulating. Staff are overworked and have no time for personal development. Insufficient training of staff; after initial training to get new starters in the lab further training is virtually nonexistent. Weak managers given line management responsibilities. Either train them properly for this or remove that responsibility.
