Pros

The company was designed to provide an environment where consultants have the skills, tools and support necessary to do our jobs. Skill enhancement and conference attendance were encouraged, career paths were clear, the organization was flat. That is no longer the case.

Cons

The company has lost its focus. It used to be focused on supporting the consultants so that we can do the best job for our clients as possible. Now it all about the administration. The upper management's salaries and bonuses have tripled while staff benefits have been cut (claiming to reduce overhead). I would not recommend starting your career here. Many senior staff have left.

Pros

Great people and interesting work. Many pockets of terrific managers who want to do great work and value their people. Used to be able to stay there for many years and still have a good career and perform a valuable service to government clients. Now only a great place to get into a specific field, gain a few years of solid experience then leave to go elsewhere to make a real paycheck and get recognized for doing good work.

Cons

The "new" management style is very non-"Not-for-profit" and betrays many of the founding tenets that LMI built it's terrific reputation on. Regretfully, when Adm. Pilling passed away the Board found it a good idea to hire someone who relishes his self-proclaimed ability to manage and drive organizations to succeed and his more than doubled salary more than the moral and culture of such a top notch organization. LMI is now no better than any other beltway bandit with its bloated executive management (up more than 50% in 4 years) and constantly decreasing benefits and employee satisfaction.

Thanks for posting a review. Change is hard, and often market driven, something LMI is not immune to. Can't help but wonder as a former employee if you are missing out on some of the context provided by the LMI 2020 Strategic Plan and associated changes to our operating model. While true that some senior folks have been brought in to enhance the dedicated focus to service delivery, business development and strategic growth (as well as marketing and communications), proportionally, the growth of consultants has far outstripped growth of management. The ratios of managers to consultants is virtually unchanged. And due to meeting company goals, with seven consecutive years of growth, all employees have enjoyed bonuses, tied to performance.
