Pros

Good benefits, flexible hours, mostly very decent coworkers. Plenty of opportunities to focus on your own research; can take classes at LSU.

Cons

The only synchrotron in the US on state budget. Have to cut corners to save money in every project, often sacrificing quality. Series of budget cuts around 2009 made everything much worse, leading to many layoffs. Unless the budget situation improves soon, the facility itself will likely be shut down in near future.
