Pros

1. The ICs you get to work alongside is probably the only good thing about this company. Many of them are incredibly kind and helpful, and also extremely talented. 2. There is some engineering rigor and interesting problems you get to work on. - decent comp and some perks That is the last of the pros unfortunately.

Cons

Labelbox stays true to form on the glassdoor reviews. When I initially interviewed, I asked about the negative reviews only to find a script that interviewers are trained to address them. Unfortunately, I fell for those responses. To start with, there is a high level of turnover, in an instant and without so much as a mention or trace, people just vanish out of the company. I've never seen so much churn in one place in my entire career, from upper management all the way down to ICs. Your projects change a lot over time, you have no idea if what you're building will even amount to anything, and yet you're expected to support those projects across its life cycle. Work life balance? No such thing exists here for a lot of team members (not all but most team members). If there is a client deadline for something you work on, be ready to cancel all your plans. Not only that, the systems are extremely brittle and when things break the IC's are the pain sponges with oftentimes no real systemic rectification by the feature owners. Lastly, management is clueless and inept. Management are essentially yes-men to the CEO. Most if not all of them lack vision and quite frankly are not very competent leaders. Growth? Only if management likes you. There is no real direction and it's an organization that is reactive in that they chase trends in the market and sacrifice on a lot of existing clients/programs to do so. They are coasting off their series B from 2021, old enterprise contracts, some new ones. Despite having been around longer than most companies in the space, many newer companies have already leapfrogged them significantly. All in all, this company treats employees like expendable mules, and also lack business and innovation sense and direction. Worst of all worlds.

Pros

- The ICs are the only reason this company still functions. They're incredibly smart, hardworking, and supportive. - You'll build great relationships because everyone is fighting through the same dysfunction together. - Compensation is above market, and the work can be technically interesting. - If you're interested in AI data, there are much better companies in this space that offer the same opportunities without the chaos.

Cons

- Think twice before joining. This company is one of the most poorly run organizations I've worked for. - Leadership prioritizes optics and revenue (which does not exist) over employees, execution, and long-term success. - Work-life balance is nonexistent. Nobody tells you to work nights or weekends/public holidays, but the workload makes it impossible not to. - You're expected to stay online after hours, respond on Slack constantly, and somehow keep up with an unrealistic amount of work. - FDEs are treated like disposable labor. You're expected to be an engineer, TPM, solutions architect, customer success manager, and on-call firefighter all at the same time. - FDEs are expected to compensate for poor planning, understaffing, and management failures while receiving little recognition for keeping projects alive. - The director of the Human Data business is either sleeping and/or on zyn. - The MDs contribute very little beyond status updates, escalations, and adding pressure. They rarely remove blockers or make teams more effective. They create unnecessary stress and chaos running around like headless-chickens. - Most managers disappear until a project starts failing. Then they suddenly appear demanding impossible timelines and asking teams to cut corners just so revenue can be recognized that month. - Alignerr and Human Data are severely understaffed. Employees routinely do the work of two or three people because leadership refuses to hire appropriately. - The Director of Human Data/Alignerr oversaw an organization defined by constant firefighting, poor communication, and reactive decision-making instead of operational excellence. - There is almost no transparency from leadership. The people generating revenue and keeping customers happy are given virtually no visibility into the company's direction or future. - Questions about the company's long-term plans or fundraising were routinely ignored or brushed aside, leaving employees completely in the dark. - Promotions, titles, and organizational decisions feel arbitrary and disconnected from reality. - There is effectively no job security. I personally saw employees laid off after only a month at the company. - If you're joining on a work visa, don't assume you'll be treated any differently. Employees were let go regardless of immigration status, often with little warning. - Loyalty is not rewarded. Employees are viewed as short-term resources that can be replaced the moment leadership decides to reduce costs.

Pros

The ICs are incredibly intelligent, persevering, and great to work alongside. It really is an "us vs. management" environment where the team meshes together and survives purely on mutual respect for one another (aka trauma bonding). The compensation and types of projects are cool, but not worth the stress you’re put under to perform. Look for competitors if you really want to be in this space and save your mental sanity.

Cons

Think twice before considering joining this dumpster fire of a company: 1. Every statement from leadership is a lie to make things sound good or to keep clients from leaving for competitors, all while forcing employees to work ungodly hours. While there is no formal requirement, you’re expected to stay up late on most days trying to get work done (because of the sheer amount of work to do) and replying on Slack just to update middle management while they sit back and do nothing. The company would rather use you and throw you out like a tissue instead of fostering a healthy work culture. 2. The executive leadership is completely broken from the top down. The CEO acts like an IC instead of leading the company, is completely antisocial, and only wants to be surrounded by "yes" people where disagreements are not tolerated and it is strictly his way or the highway. Right alongside him, the spineless Director of Human Data does 0 work and fires people for no reason while trying to act cool with everyone. This management layer has no idea where the company is going. Their only goal is revenue targets, and their only strategy is throwing FDEs, TPMs, and money at problems like headless chickens while remaining completely disengaged. 3. Meanwhile, FDEs are treated like slaves by MDs who know nothing about the industry, and promotions and titles are given out like raffle cards to inexperienced people who were just in the right place at the right time. Alignerr services is a disaster. It is severely understaffed yet you will be expected to do the work of three people simply because management cannot handle their own basic responsibilities. Management disappears until a project is actively failing, then shows up demanding everyone cut corners to force out garbage data just to log revenue for the month. On top of that, the platform itself is held together with gum and toothpicks, constantly breaking, yet management expects flawless execution. When you finish a project and do a good job, there is zero recognition, just more work dumped on your plate. If you make any mistake, you will feel like your job is on the line or you’ll be treated poorly for the mistake. This company will never give you job security and they will throw you out on a moment notice.
