Pros

If you are a student assistant, they will work around your schedule. If you get hired by the right department, you can get incredibly connected with the higher ups. I know of one person who got a recommendation from Lamar's President for a job.

Cons

20 hours max a week. Don't expect to be rich if you have bills to pay.

Pros

People are friendly and supportive.Environment is positive. Cost of living is not high. Many good places to et asnd tour museums and art galleries.

Cons

the weather is very humid and you never have a good hair day.You are 45 minutes to Louisiana state line and there is so much to do in Louisiana. You are 80 miles from Houston and you would have tons of great things to do there also. Beaches are close and you can take a ferry from Bolivar to Galveston for the day or the weekend, and the boat ride is fun with dolphibs following the ferry.
