Terrible Compensation and Very Little Support
Pros
There is some potential to increase your earnings if you are lucky enough to have a manager who will let you broker loads rather than deal with greedy shippers who pay less than the bare minimum.
Cons
Dispatchers earn only 6.86% of the revenue that drivers get. Since most shippers refuse to pay truckers anything reasonable, dispatchers usually end up making less than $50 per load. The problem with that is that Landstar takes a minimum of $50 from dispatchers for every load, meaning if you make anything less than $100 on a load, you’re screwed. If you have a boss who isn’t greedy that will let you broker loads, you earn up to 80% commission on the load. Good luck finding a supervisor generous enough to give you brokerable accounts. There is a one-day training on how to deal with customers. After that, you’re pretty much on your own.
