Pros

The college is in the process of shifting focus to become more student centered which is the best place to direct the efforts of a higher education institution.

Cons

Any time an organization is in the midst of significant changes it can be difficult for employees. Previous hiring practices allowed individuals into positions that they are now not considered qualified for. Until that is completely resolved it will be an uncomfortable situation.

Not bad for what it is

Pros

LCC has an outstanding faculty community in your own department. The pay is also pretty high for part-time adjunct work. Most people working close with you are positive and helpful.

Cons

Like many higher ed institutions, LCC suffers from heavy administration. Once you get out of your own department, there is a little more conflict and difficulty with higher levels. People in those positions are all outstanding individuals committed to improving the quality of their institution, but internal politics can often stifle the creative passion that is present here. Also, like most community colleges, the school has a heavy over-reliance on adjunct labor while over-working their full-time faculty. It makes for a challenging work environment that limits advancement.

The ones that work will be given more work.

Pros

Plenty of opportunity to gain experience in a position in various career fields. There are a lot of paid holidays and vacation time, if you are privileged to use it.

Cons

Constantly shifting around part time hours to accommodate the needs of the college. There are too many part time positions bearing full time responsibilities and work. The people that work hard to better themselves and the college will be targets for more work, while the people that do not do much continue to get away with minimal effort for the same pay. The load from the insubordinate and lazy gets directed to the people who get things done and already have plenty of work to do. There is a total lack of communication from the top down, and if you communicate well, then you will be made the hub between those who don't communicate well, yet the information you are given is vague at best. The part time positions will never become full time positions, even if the work load calls for it. There is favoritism for different departments when it comes to recognition, overtime, and respect. The union basically forces you to join upon being hired, and doesn't do to much for the worker other than taking dues. Too much politics slowing basic processes down.
