Pros

I'm working here part time while I'm attending the nearby university. It's a diverse environment with PIs, post docs, students, and international users. I don't know much in the terms of funding and other doctoral concerns, but I know that the lab is much better funded than the ones down on campus. The floor I work in has a great dynamic and no drama. Even though I'm a undergraduate student, I feel like I have a lot of control but also mentoring when I need it.

Cons

I can only work on the weekdays for when the shuttle is available. I work a varied amount of hours a week for units for school, but they often expect more than the promised hours. By this point, it's a given that you'll spend 3-4 hours more a week than stated. Also, pay is only available in the summer.

Pros

The benefits are very good, from the health care to the vision care, the UC legal services benefit.

Cons

Budget cuts from DOE have decimated the lab in all divisions, but particularly Operations (Facilities, IT, Environment Health and Safety).
