      Good benefits, flexible hours and interesting work

      Pros

      See the title of this review. Very nice retirement and medical benefits, although your salary will be less than in industry. However, there is a lot of flexibility with when you do your work and vacations are respected (and expected!)

      Cons

      Lower pay makes it hard to live in the bay area. LBL only have real career advancement for those with a Ph D. (maybe that's not wrong, just limiting for me at the moment.)

      Pros

      Nice location. I had an overall very negative experience so it is hard to list something positive.

      Cons

      Non-competitive salary. No or minimal career growth possibilities. Badly organized work. Unpleasant toxic work atmosphere. Strange policies enforced by fear. In my opinion as a postdoc you are being exploited especially if you have visa requirements e.g. you can not negotiate your salary as you will not have alternative job opportunities.

      High Tech facility to use, Cutting edge advance work in many fields, You meet many great minds, Mostly amicable colleagues, Senior authority people are quite encouraging to new scientists and students to do better and explore beyond, Many helpful resources available for career development, Management works here to help you and work with you to solve a problem and not to create nuisance.

      Cons

      Bureaucratic approvals take unexpected and unavoidable long time, Salary as a postdoc is very low to survive well in bay area, compared to other National lab postdocs who work in Bay area (Ex: Sandia, Livermore, PNNL etc.).
