Safe haven for stereotypical tech leaders, brutal for customer-facing ICs
Pros
- Smart, thoughtful individual contributors with a drive to deliver for the customer. - empathetic clients and team-level leadership - one of the more enjoyable experiences I've had in an industry despite cannabis being very rapidly changing, with different regulations between states. Primarily due to the product sold and the personalities of the operators in cannabis.
Cons
- out of touch senior leadership with resumes that speak more to juicing every dollar possible out of an opportunity, versus providing any quality experience to customers - they've fired pretty much everyone who knows how to operate the platform - there are some individual contributors / middle managers who have tried to take voluntary severance but can't lest critical functions cease - there's a huge pile of crippling tech debt that they are currently trying to minimize by shedding products and features as fast as possible - spent the last several years burning huge piles of money with poor direction prior to the founder being summarily replaced by current leadership - no process (or desire) for feedback to be received or actioned on from go to market employees or the long tail of their customers (any cannabis company that is not a multi state operator)
