Pros

great paid time off (when you're selling), fun co workers

Cons

This is a TELEMARKETING job, no matter how they sugar coat it. They cleaned house (fired and or forced the sales team to quit) the week before Christmas. Job security is a freaking joke. They are heartless. Quick turnover, even when you're selling. A person quits or is fired every 10 days. This company is a sinking ship. Poor management, for example: sales team manager was demoted back to sales team, not a word was said to the sales team, and to this day they still don't know what happened. This manager was also fantastic.

Pros

Coworkers and the lowest level of management are mostly decent people and make the atmosphere OK. No dress code makes for a relaxed environment (minus the 20+ daily deadlines).

Cons

The design center I work at is mandating six days a week shifts. Layoffs are happening across the board - another design center is being shut down and papers are slashing newsroom staffs. Pay does not reflect the amount of work you do or stress you endure. No raises or rewards for good work. Working with editors to "design" a page is about as fun as a root canal, and that's your main job. No innovation or encouragement, no push for quality work, no support. If you're looking to be a newspaper designer, this is not the place for you.
