Pros
Pay is okay. Just okay. Insurance is pretty decent, and that's the trap.
Cons
This company is completely mismanaged, doesn't train production employees, hires employees that drink on the job and are on meth and heroine and can be found nodding off, speeding around on forklifts, or having breakdowns while screaming at employees or bawling their eyes out. Nothing is planned properly, upgrades are halfway planned and abandoned. Employees aren't trained, there aren't enough maintenance people. Equipment gets ran to the ground and they have to patch everything to keep it temporarily running until it really messes up then it's everyone's problem except their own. They purposefully use a majority of temp workers to keep the union from being effective, and the majority of the temp workers are illegal aliens. They'd rather fire people than train them to actually be able to do the job. And the advancement is a joke. The maintenance people were constantly complaining about how the tests they are given to get pay raises are rigged so that they don't get pay raises, and that they can instead take online courses to get the pay raise, but that the online courses are buggy and that they end up having to pay the company back for "expenses." Don't even get me started on safety. The company believes that somehow they are grandfathered into some safety standards that are horribly outdated. Their inspection stickers had been expired for at least a year when I started working there. Safety is a joke at Lewis Brothers Bakeries. If their product wasn't bread, a main food staple, they most definitely would have failed by now. I'm surprised the place hasn't caught on fire or blown up yet. The Lewis Brothers' motto is "More than just bread." But the way it's treated, everyone just says "It's just bread." But you know the company is right. It is more than just bread. It's crap. If you all knew how your Lewis Bread, Bunny Bread, Sunbeam, L'ovenFresh, Texas Toast, whatever bread was treated you'd never eat bread again. The equipment isn't sanitized properly, everything is rusty, flies everywhere, cockroaches everywhere, flour beetles everywhere, the bathrooms are disgusting, and the toilets are always broken. I've seen rats and cockroaches on the equipment, and there has been rat excrement on the machinery. I wish I was joking, but after working here I started baking my own bread at home. It may take me a few hours, but at least I know that I gave a damn about it and what went into it.
