Prairie Mentality: Software Division is a Mess

Pros

Untracked hence unlimited PTO -- again, a mess, so take advantage! Those who abuse the system benefit, as overly hard work is discouraged; Perceptive has a prairie mentality.

Cons

Too many acquisitions; Perceptive was the weak link, but also the first acquired, so the insecure Kansas-based, marketing team has "circled the wagons" to get rid of Brainware, Readsoft, Kofax, etc.: anybody who outshines the prairie folk.

Pros

Decent work life balance and benefits. Unlimited paid vacation. Got placed on a great team. Was laid back when I started.

Cons

Been here less than a year. There have been one round of layoffs and we're looking at starting another round. Low moral, toxic environment.

Pros

If you need this job, either for money or experience, then take it, but don't stay too long. There are a lot of people at Lexmark to learn from. I was shocked by the number of very knowledgeable, very intelligent people.

Cons

The company's future is very uncertain. Not a lot of diversity. Lots of politics.
