Pros

The people. We have students who berate us on the phone and then have a management team that doesn't back us up, but the people that work around you support and encourage you. The people, friends, I have made the past few years will be missed the most.

Cons

Pretty much everything else. No ability for advancement. Even with positive reviews every year I have received, I have sat in the exact same spot. Expectations are horribly communicated. I could truly go on and on. I have been in the work force for many years and I've never had a worse experience with a job then Liberty. I have never even heard of a mangement team treating their employees as badly as Advising where if you run out of vacation/sick days at the end of the year and get sick, (even with a doctor's note) you can be put on corrective review or possibly fired (this is the absolute truth). If you have a family, don't apply for this position unless you don't like them, because with the horrible schedule you will get, you will never see them. Also, with a large family you won't be able to support them with the pay LU offers.

Pros

The only pros are that co-workers at the same level understand how terrible it is, and work as a team to get through the day.

Cons

Extremely low pay for the amount of money you make the University. Nepotism is everywhere. By everywhere, I mean every single department. The Presidents son is the head of the Welding Department. He does not have very many years of experience. There is no vision for the LUO departments except for cranking out numbers. Employees do not actually have goals, so everything seems pointless. Liberty University is a wolf in sheep's clothing. They function as a for profit under the lie of being a non-profit organization. The amount of money that the school makes in their online department, leaves no excuse to keep the pay so low. The school and leaders tout the slogan "training champions for Christ", but love to treat employees like garbage. There is little generosity at this school, unless it is being used to look good to the public eye. The education benefit is used as an excuse to pay employees less. I would rather get paid more, so that I may go to a school that provides a better education instead of taking free courses at Liberty University.

Pros

Direct management and even middle to upper-middle management is great. Coworkers create a great environment, easy to learn new skills and technologies

Cons

Pay for comparable positions in the area and surrounding areas is 200-350% of what Liberty pays for the same position. HR controls everything, your direct manager is not allowed to know what you make, and they really don't have much control over your raises. For the past 3 years, HR has not given cost of living increases, instead giving a "cost of living bonuses", and acting like that's better for us because we get it all at once. They are finally giving an increase this year - of a whole 0.3%. Because of the pay, turnover rate is very high - most stick around for about 3 years, or less.
