Opportunities are there to learn a lot but feel undervalued by management
Pros
I've been able to try a lot of different programs and tasks and have learned a lot by training in all departments of working in a branch library.
Cons
The way things are currently going, it seems like management would rather have as few people working in the branches as possible, at the same time expecting an increase in the number of programs and services to be performed by the reduced staff. Non-competitive salaries. Management wants to make sure we're providing the best customer service to our communities and I feel like part of that includes the community being able to get to know its library staff. That is less possible when there is a constant turnover of staff as current staff leave for jobs that pay better. In the last few years, we've received wage adjustments as the minimum wage increases but not actual raises.
