Pros

It's a mission centric workplace God is uniquely using to model what a healthy large church can be. Projects are unique and feedback and new ideas are listened to and processed. The talent that is attracted is diverse and passionate about the mission. Leadership is theologically conservative and knows that the preaching of sin and repentance are necessary Holy Spirit-led convictions which continue to lead thousands annually at Life.Church towards the salvation Jesus brings. Multiple touch points through the year for staff appreciation including the big Family Reunion. Benefits are the best you'll get working at a church. Leadership is accessible for a convo if you're not a jerk. Hard work is rewarded, sometimes slowly. You're cared about as a person made in the image of God, and as much as an employer can be expected to, they work to make sure you are supported personally going beyond the standard benefits if needed and approved by your leader. Working here asks more of your personal and family life than a non church job, and I think it should.

Cons

Some teams with high effectiveness are under-staffed and over evaluated. Some teams with low effectiveness are over-staffed and under evaluated. Biblical education and ministerial qualification upholding is thin, sometimes out of an abundance of worry to take a stance, or bias of leadership culture over pastoral qualifications that are outlined in Gods word. This should be the biggest long term red-flag for the health of the church. Some central staffers get entitled and forget what our pastors at campuses actually endure and provide for our church every week. The central team talent needed to build the next generation of the church inevitably has to have pay scales that closer compete with enterprise companies. Great leaders who should be promoted hit their cap because 1) of tenured leaders whose career no longer depends on performance, or 2) fixed org structures leadership doesn't want to touch.

Pros

I've worked in full-time vocational ministry for 17 years, and 5 of those have been at Life.Church. I've seen what an unhealthy church/ministry culture looks like, and I'm grateful to say that Life.Church isn't that. I've personally had a few experiences being in a small group setting with the Leadership team and with Pastor Craig, and each time they are inquisitive about me, my family, and how they can better the organization. They have always been open to feedback and have never given the impression that they "have it all figured out." I love working at Life.Church because: We are mission-driven and focused on making a lasting impact The culture is fun, positive, and team-oriented Expectations are clear, with strong systems for success I receive frequent, helpful feedback that helps me grow I feel my voice is heard, and my opinion and perspective are seen. Leadership is transparent, supportive, and holds high accountability There is a genuine care for my whole family, not just my role The benefits are incredible, and pay is competitive Performance is recognized, with raises and growth opportunities

Cons

While Life.Church has a strong overall culture, being a large organization means that campus-to-campus experiences can differ. The leadership and health of each Campus Pastor significantly influence team culture, which can sometimes create inconsistencies in how that culture is lived out day to day. I've worked at 3 Campuses, in two different states, under 3 different Campus Pastors. I did have a less-than-ideal experience at 1 campus with 1 campus pastor, who had a lower EQi and maturity level. Through that experience, I saw how leadership handled both my feedback and their leadership. I was supported, and they were held accountable.

The Best Place to Work - when Called and Committed

Pros

What you do and get payed for is more than a job, the mission of your work is to lead people to become fully devoted followers of Christ. When I believed it and chose to lean in, this workplace has blessed me and my family more than we could have imagined. The people I work alongside across the organization are world class communicators, community driven leaders, and dear friends. The innovation that has come from Life.Church/YouVersion (the Bible app) is awe-inspiring. My opinions are heard and matter, I'm not a number or statistic. This organization and church is the right place for you if you're bringing enough competency for the role, passionate about the mission, aligned with the organization's culture, and ready for ministry. (Though not every role is given pastoral status, you are developed and equipped as a minister of Jesus Christ)

Cons

While the mission remains the same, the organization will adapt its directional efforts in response to what's happening around us. Therefore, change is a constant, and org structures can be frequent. Layoffs are non-existent, but I'll see a lot of people step off the team because they lose passion or perks over their previous role on the team. I can speak from experience: I virtually have had a new direct leader every year. You'll thrive if you continue to trust the calling, trust our leaders, and trust the process. As a non-profit and religious organization, Life.Church/YouVersion can't currently compete with other market salary ranges. However, my family has received the best benefits and insurances around thanks to this organization. If you are considering employment here, ask questions in your interviews as early as possible about salary/benefits/relocation.
