Pros

The money is there if you are willing to work for it Free gym membership and discounts on products/ services

Cons

They offer “base salary plus commission” but this job is really 100% commission that just offers guaranteed monthly amount of 2500. Commission payout percentages change every month so sometimes you could be making a lot less or more for the same sale They only care about hitting certain numbers, not the people you do it. They incentive pushy sales most of the time to get people on High packs New bonus structure is hard to obtain the full amount of and got cut down a lot from the previous year so they don’t have to pay their workers as much. Bonus is also based on team performance, not individual. So if you work super hard and someone on your team doesn’t you lose out on money Leads and sales are often stolen from one another They expect you to come in on your only days off to work and practically live there. That is the only way to truly be successful. Hours are long. I practically had to spent 55 hours a week there which still wasn’t enough. I don’t recommend this job to anyone who values any kind of life outside of work because they are not understanding of wanting to be away from work once in awhile Interview and training process is beyond extensive

Pros

Free membership, but by the time you are done dealing with all the nonsense this place allows, outside of days you teach you will not even want to go.

Cons

Corporate always pushes "numbers" onto group fitness instructors, even during holiday/summer season when people travel, they will say "your class numbers are in the red" though you maintained an high average of class participants over the entire year. (Its group fitness, numbers go up and down all year long, even in the most popular of classes!) So much turnover in group fitness department head, so rules are always changing. Four or five instructors have 5+ classes and are all over the schedule, even though some of their classes have poor numbers, management wont allow new formats to take their place- mind you, new formats they asked YOU to get certified in and never reimbursed you, so the only way to make the money back from certifiactions is by teaching it other places. Then when the format takes off at other gyms and does well, then they chase you down to teach it at lifetime. Never above the trend, always trailing behind. Dont even bother contacting the general manager Joel when you are inbetween group fitness department heads, he just reads the emails and doesnt respond. Other group fitness instructors allow cliques, and these cliques feel like they run the gym. So if you arent someone who will kiss their butt, or try to get in with their favorite instructors- forget it. They will happily sabotage you by speaking poorly of your class (especially to other members, and some instructors will do it too if they feel threatened by you). Other instructors who do participate in this sabotage behavior, and will openly do it to the point where members can see it! Because they "bring good numbers" management wont reprimand them. They will gladly allow many HR violations just to keep class numbers up. Basically, someone can repeatedly harass you and after you tell management nothing will change because the other instructor is a popular instructor and draws a crowd. Overall, if you are a good person who enjoys group fitness because you want to help others, please do yourself a favor and stay far away from here. This place is a negative energy sesspool from management down. Its toxic and will leave you burned out to the point where your original mission to help others is well lost.
