Pros

Life Time has everything necessary to be a brand that it's employees would tirelessly pour their heart and soul into. They stand for a 360° approach to healthy and proactive living. The CEO is a true visionary in regard to what the future-state of our lives will be in regard to health and fitness. They can pay well if you fight for it. On site gym, which makes for a great way to blow off some steam if you experience any of the following section.

Cons

CEO is an entrepreneur through and through, however, he is NOT a good or even adequate leader. He meddles in every aspect and level. He runs the company on fear and does not accept any idea that is not his own. He has also built a culture of cronyism and bureaucracy. After almost 5 years of working there I'm shocked it is able to function as it does. On numerous occasions I worked on projects that were directed by internal business owners that gave very little direction or constructive briefs. The project would run multiple, futile rounds based upon their current whim. When we would have it finalized it would come time to present to the CEO and the business owners would not present to the CEO or stand behind their direction. The CEO would then ask why things were done a specific way to which we really couldn't answer because as much as we asked for clear objective we were rarely afforded the luxury. And in turn the CEO would shutdown the whole project sending it back to the drawing board. Numerous cycles or this wasted time, energy and money has proven to be the crippling handicap of a potentially inspiring work environment. There is also: rampant misogyny, lack of career planning and transparency on how to successfully advance, HR is non-existent and even when complains are filed individuals are never held accountable and those filing complains are usually ostracized until they quit or are fired, Upper management is usually based upon who you know NOT how effective or productive you are which puts completely inept people in charge of multi-million dollar companies with little insight on how to perform on the most basic of levels. Technologically the company is 5 years behind and perpetually tries to reinvent the wheel instead of looking for and implementing efficiencies. For a Healthy Way of Life Company they have the WORST health coverage I have ever had in my 15 years as a professional. If the gym is open corporate is working, 5 holidays a year: Christmas Day, New Years Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day. Good luck getting more than 2 week PTO a year, and that includes your sick days. It's in Chanhassen, MN

Pros

Higher commission than chain spas, free gym membership, full benefits,

Cons

Companies expects YOU to build up your own clientele by doing FREE chair massage on members and employees and free services on management. You pay shop charges on every client to see, your commission goes down ( sliding scale) if your revenue is down, and then they take more out of your pay if you don't meet your retail sales goals. So they are constantly taking money out of your pay. Then when you do the math , take out all the expenses they charge you for, your pay check is still wrong!! There is always money missing! Trying to get upper management and corporate payroll and HR to help is a joke. You can work 50-60 hrs a week for months, then it slows down so you leave early when you have no appointments. They threaten to drop your benefits because you are 2 hours short of your full time hours status just once! No overtime pay, no holiday pay, and we were open every day! Having to fold our own laundry, clean our own department, for free! We are commission based remember. So we don't get paid to do this FREE labor!

Pros

You have a job Lot's of Kool-Aid to drink, if you hope not to get fired. The motivation you gain by quitting and aspiring to move up in life.

Cons

I have first hand knowledge of how this corrupt and narcissistic company works.. I consider myself and honest hard woking person, what I experienced during my time at life time fitness was the worst I've ever experienced. As I look back at my experience, I realized that it was more like being apart of an occult then a company. You either worshiped the Iranian born CEO Bahram Akradi and his soulless followers or you did not. That is why this company has such a horrendous turnover problem. I was a manager, and most of the people I hired never lasted. If you were overweight or did not fit the company standard you never made it to the second interview or if you were hired, were sent off to the laundry room to wash and fold hundreds of towels day in and day out. This was so you were not "seen" by members. Good people were either let go, financially starved and just walked out. The slave wages and poor benefits are used like a dangling carrot until you realize it's just not worth it.. Iranian CEO Bahram Akradi has amassed a large fortune off the backs and sweat of people like me, and my staff desperate to earn an honest living. While he pushes the lie of "The Healthy Way of Life Company" Its all a lie folks, smoke and mirrors. I was so tired of 10+ hours days trying to keep his clubs clean, that working out was physically impossible. Plus, any time I had left was time spent with my family, whom I barely saw. Bahram Akradi's best skill as a leader?.......... EXPLOIT CHEAP LABOR. Go to school, become a professional, earn a trade, start your own business, do whatever you can to stay away from companies like Life Time Fitness.
