A good company

Pros

Decent pay, good people. If you do your job right and work full time then they give you an extra 2 dollars an hour. Overtime gets you time and a half and overtime on a holiday gets you double pay so lots of people game the system a bit so their overtime lands on a holiday.

Cons

Management is overworked so they'll need tons of reminders for overtime requests and such. You usually get held over an hour or so, which makes working two days in a row really hard. Most holdovers are due to dispatch not realizing that you're an hour away from your garage so they dismiss you when your shift ends.

Getting Better

Pros

They are in the midst of a lot of improvements. New leadership is part of that. With that said, it is a good place to get exposure to health care and emergency medicine. Pay is low but they are addressing that and unfortunately, this industry is low paying, to begin with. If you want to move up (EMT-B to P) they can help with that. They still need to do a better job with the basics (management attitudes, follow-up, communication) but they are working on it. You are also pretty much guaranteed OT if you want it.

Cons

There's a lot of monotonous work but the occasional out-of-the-ordinary and ER call's make up for that. Lack of follow-up and communication from leadership/management (follow-up to questions and requests) still needs improvement. Pay, while improving, is still behind other industry peers.
