Pros

There is a great deal of happiness when dealing with the portrait studios as most of the clients are children. The managers and other DMs are a close and supportive team to work with

Cons

They change the hierarchy frequently so even if you manage to get a promotion the following year you may lose it. Also the office has a strong disconnect from what the field actually does and they create too much job justifying redundant work for the field that does not add to the bottom line.

Pros

Employee owned company, you have stock. Travel. Other photographers. Awesome employee retreat week in a luxury cabin in the mountains (spouses could come the last couple of days). The owner of the company (Mark) was kind, generous, and genuinely interested in the individual success of his employees. There was a certain amount of independence once you've been there awhile. You can travel by yourself to photo locations, set up and work without supervision. Trips to schools that required hotel stays were always fun.

Cons

Super early mornings combined with late nights. There were many nights I wasn't able to get more than a couple hours of sleep due to getting off at 2am because photos had to edited that night after a dance or sporting event and then I would be scheduled to leave at 5am to get to a distant school and set up before class started. Vans were not really safe or reliable. Some of the lead photographers were awesome but some were difficult to work with (well, one in particular). You need a lot of energy, an extroverted personality, and a ton of patience to work at this job. NO BREAKS no matter how many hours you work. Your break time is considered your drive time there and back.

Pros

Own a piece of stock. Relationship with team was amazing.

Cons

who wants to be called into work for just 3 hours? Cannot have a life with ON CALL shifts!!! They would never fire someone! Theres an associate that has caused hell to past managers and associates. After all the write up and meetings they supposely still had no good reason to fire them. Caused many good employee's to leave even with the complaints. I didnt understand how an associate can consistantly bad mouth a manager and get away with it. According to the DM your just supposed to deal with it. What kind of management is that. A person should not have to just DEAL with anything type of disrepect to authority. People stay in there postions for years; i mean thats great and all but there is hardle room for advancement. If you want to advance you have to work there for like ever! or relocate to the middel of nowhere.
