Pros

life changing work with people of all backgrounds, travel opportunities, themed days were fun, screening was effective, good opportunities for new mom's to work and bring their newborn, benefits for full-time employees

Cons

difficult to get full time hours during the school year, no formal training to work with students on the autistic spectrum with behaviors, very low pay considering the work that is done and it takes a lot to get a raise (after the "best summer ever" we all got a 16 cent raise), hiring clinicians can be difficult.

Good in some ways...

Pros

The pay is good for someone still in college, or if you are a recent grad ($15/hr). And they needed all the help they could get, at least at my location. I got a $50 bonus my first summer there, and $100 the second summer. The kids were mostly fun to work with, and it was nice to see them actually improve their reading skills.

Cons

It was a little exhausting being around so many people who "drank the Kool-Aid," although most of them were nice people. There was no flexibility in the schedule, and even as a returner they wouldn't approve my request for (unpaid) time off.

Pros

Work with kids and see significant gains in reading and comprehension.

Cons

Clinicians are seriously underpaid and management is incestuous. Parents charged $100+ an hour and clinicians receive only $15/hr. That is just wrong. No benefits, inconsistent hours, adolescent management culture.
