Pros

- you can really see the kids improve over time which can be really satisfying - every hour is different because you get a new kid - one-on-one tutoring enables you to build strong connections with the kids - I almost cried tears of joy after the kid finally was able to spell "pout" after two months of trying to get her to understand the difference between "ou" and "au" - kids vary in severity. you can have a blast and a favorite kid who gets it and improves or you can get a severely autistic kid who wants to pet all the plants outside and not come in for a break. but the good part is that the kids are rotated among clinicians and if you are having a horrible time with a kid, you can switch out if you ask nicely

Cons

- can be very draining if you are not a patient person - had a kid scream, tear our her hair, call me ugly, throw things at me, spit all over the desk, and chew on her chair when she got frustrated (like I said, if you are not a patient person, this job will be hell sometimes) - sometimes you will teach a kid vowels every day for an entire summer with the same practice and not see improvement (like I said you need lots and lots of patience)

Pros

Working with the kids! This job acts as a great boot camp for anyone interested in an educational and/or therapeutic field. I would recommend seasonal (i.e., summer) employment only, for college students or recent graduates.

Cons

A toxic, passive-aggressive culture is passed down through the ranks. The schedule in the off-season is unpredictable. Pay/benefits are not appropriate. Employee satisfaction is perhaps the company's lowest priority.

Pros

amazing program changes kids lives in terms of reading, comprehension, spelling, math. good opportunity for advancement. international locations. lots of fun to work with kids all day, every day.

Cons

flying by the seat of their pants in terms of understanding how to run a business, set goals, plan strategically. nepotistic. always wants to do everything on their own and doesn't accept outside help.
