Pros

Good to get your foot in the door if you want to work for county or government. Meet great higher ups who will give you a letter of recommendation for future job opportunities. I took the job in the hopes that I could learn more about government work.

Cons

The pay is abysmal and they will not consider your education and experience. I have a BA and 3 years of experience and I get less than a dollar above minimum wage. Older boomers are very gatekeep-y about the work and about giving more responsibilities and will micromanage. Very boring with minimal responsibilities but will be reprimanded if you aren’t always keeping busy. Since it’s very hard to get fired from a government job, the boomers have taken it to their advantage and have been harassing the younger workers for years. Lots of complaints and they still have their jobs.

Pros

Flexibility as PRN nurse (aka part time)

Cons

They avoid following personnel policy to try and take advantage of nurses and patient assignments are terrible for PRN nurses as veterans give out more favorable assignments amongst themselves or their favorites
