Pros

Great pay, autonomy to a degree, multitude of trainings, relatively flexible work schedule.

Cons

Initially during training there are long hours and could be placed almost anywhere. Micro-managing, favoritism, lower educated individuals ‘managing’ higher educated individuals based on favoritism.

Pros

My review is based on being a “xb” full time operator. Excellent paid training. You will be a good driver if you put the work in. Pay is decent for what we do. Plenty of OT if you want it. Uniform stipend is generous so you never have to pay out of pocket for work supplies. Health/dental/vision for your family and you is only $100/monthly. You’re vested into the pension system after 130 months of service. They offer tuition reimbursement (but you probably won’t have time to use it). Two weeks vacation time after year one.

Cons

As a xb operator, MTA absolutely owns your soul. Work life balance is virtually non existent. You can be mandated to work on your first day off. We deal with LAs worst without a gun or badge and essentially ordered to deal with their abuse. Supervisors/management are not on our side and will write you up for petty BS. It’s a high seniority company so you may not get a set schedule for years (depending on the division). Union fees are high and they don’t do much for us. Not many opportunities to promote or transfer departments. Very “woke” company. Tardiness is absolutely not tolerated.
