Pros

The people are great and care about their jobs, being a global company there is tons of opportunity for professional networking.

Cons

Too many acquisitions, they have purchased so many companies but fail to properly integrate them seamlessly and allowing us to work more efficiently. Often you don't get a bonus, yet the company still tends to be successful and makes enough revenue to purchase another company.

Too much change in direction and focus with a me too product set

Pros

Decent pay, "unlimited vacation time" for salary employees, good 401k matching as well as health (medical, dental, vision).

Cons

I have worked for CenturyLink for over 4 years and every year there is a change in the focus on what the company views will be their next growth area every year. Some senior management have the vision on where IT is going and make investments there, but Executive Management don't stick to those visions and in turn stop investing in the products that make the company a leader in the industry. In addition management and product do not listen to employees on what or how products should be developed and miss opportunities to better enable our customers.

Pros

The large and stunningly complex inner workings leave plenty of work to be done, or you could view it another way and understand that there are plenty of ways to hide. Company's core products are protected by a veritable monopoly on the services. Pockets of great and smart people still cling on in quiet corners.

Cons

Despite years of evidence to the contrary, CenturyLink continues to lie to itself about being anything other than a stodgy old phone company. A revolving door of upper management, and their accompanying "fresh new ideas," will never come to fruition, as concepts already hobbled by poor judgment and a stunning lack of funds will be turned completely on their ear when the mission changes yet again every 8 - 12 months. A corporate culture stuck in the 20th century becomes further and further hobbled by legacy systems piled upon each other from a string of never-quite-finished mergers and acquisitions. Pure mass forgives an inability and unwillingness to innovate, and fosters a culture of apathy, where schemers prevail. Cronyism springs eternal, as you'd rightly imagine.
