Pros

Cons

Just like Orlando is Florida without the beach, Luminar is a startup without fun, flexibility, or funding. I've worked for many companies, some of them disorganized, but this one is different. It's not even chaotic, it's anarchic. No rules, no accountability, just egos, guesswork, and survival. Anything goes, except professionalism or competence. And what makes it worse is that they seem proud of it, like their broken system is a feature, not a bug. There is no will to fix things, and they don't want to admit anything is broken. You get punished if you point out at flaws and try to improve anything. The company culture is toxic, punishing initiative, rewarding complacency. It creates a culture where dysfunction is protected. In addition to the struggle of work, you have to fight for everything at Luminar, even for the basics like a decent workstation. I was shielded from any positive exposure to management and customer, which made everything boring and discouraging. Communication is broken. Either non-existent or very muddied. They make simple things complicated for no reason. The basics of engineering and product development are not followed. Luminar is a disingenuous company. Luminar is by far the least cooperation-oriented company I've worked for. Teamwork is virtually nonexistent. Luminar routinely goes through mass layoffs and, as a result, the company is constantly in crisis mode, and everyone is always on edge. I hated my time there, and I wish I hadn't worked for them.
