Terrible Medical Benefits

Pros

Beautiful Campus Close to downtown Annapolis

Cons

Medical benefits are expensive and do not cover a lot, even when you are seen at AAMC (example: $150 copay for MRIs and CTs at AA Diagnostics). The benefits are much worse when you see a provider outside AAMC, which is often since AAMC does not offer a wide-range of specialists. The tuition reimbursement is only $3,000 for graduate studies - this does not promote higher education for employees. The various units/departments do not work well together, which negatively impacts not only the employee experience but also the patient experience.

We continuously benchmark our benefit plan offerings against other health systems of the same size in an effort to offer a competitive benefits package. Currently, we offer three different medical plans to our part-time and full-time employees. The deductible, copayment and coinsurance amounts vary by plan. We offer these choices because we believe that one medical plan does not fit everyone’s needs and that employees should be able to pick what works best for them. Another way we work to keep the benefit costs down is by having a tiered benefit structure, where our leadership and physicians pay a higher percentage of the premium costs to offset the premiums paid by employees. As an organization we encourage employees’ growth through training and additional education. In order to provide tuition reimbursement to as many of our full-time and part-time employees as possible, we had to set this annual maximum. In addition to tuition reimbursement, AAMC has many scholarship programs which eligible employees are able to apply to. If you have concerns about the collaboration between departments, we encourage you to speak to your supervisor.

Pros

Great location, easy commute, flexible hours available, acceptable compensation, free parking

Cons

Management expects so much from employees but is not equipped with specific knowledge how to treat employees right; there is no fair conflict resolution available; benefits are too costly; a lot of people in management position do not possess minimum standard people skills; not a good place from a diversity point of view, management and most employees do not have any consideration for people from different cultures and backgrounds than the majority population, cafeteria food is not good quality

We appreciate your feedback, and are consistently trying to improve the organization for everyone. We recently implemented management essential skills training for all new leaders to ensure that employees have a consistent experience throughout the organization, no matter where they report. AAMC is always working to strengthen our diversity initiative. We know that a diverse organization better represents the communities for which we care. It’s our goal to provide employees with affordable benefits that meet their healthcare needs. In fact, employees who hold leadership roles supplement the cost of some of those benefits. There is a tiered cost sharing structure, so that the higher-paid employees pay more than others.

Pros

You can use your work badge to purchase food, pharmacy items, and gift shop purchases anytime and will be just be deducted from your pay

Cons

Not a great place to work if your looking for a place that allows upward growth if you or a minority. Allot of management staff show favoritism on who they will promote or allow to move up into a higher position
