HR is running things into the ground.

Pros

Individuals, they care about the company and their local clients.

Cons

The emperor has no clothes, but only allows the blindly devoted to progress, no expertise required. How many HR hires over 50 the last 3 years? How many have left? How many bonus eligible managers are in HR compared to the business span of control limitations? How much money went to an obsolete open office vs technical training for employees? Global leaders have zero accountability but hold almost all the power in the organization. Local, successful proven leaders have been marginalized or removed. MAPFRE is a good company, with a serious local leadership issue.

Pros

Someone else who gave a review mentioned the “worker bees.” I couldn’t agree more, there’s some really hard-working people here who have great personalities and are excellent teammates. Unfortunately it seems like the best people get beat down the most. It’s in the middle of nowhere so that’s a pro, no traffic, unless you’re trying to drive in and out from Boston then forget it. If you must go work here then take a look at the Operations Dept., or IT. But if you have other opportunities don’t bother.

Cons

Again, someone else in the reviews mentioned egos. I don’t know what’s going on here in this tiny town in Webster that has grown so many people in the company who think so highly of themselves? Put them in other large corporations and I don’t think they’d survive. For example, you’ll have someone who grew up in Webster or nearby, graduated from Nichols College which is right next-door, they start in claims at MAPFRE, only ever worked at MAPFRE, and they work their way up to manage a team of call-center reps. (Great, deservedly so)... but then suddenly they’re moved into a larger management role directing eople... a team of more worldly people who have years of experience in a totally unrelated field... The work is boring, sometimes it can get interesting but come on, the whole point of an insurance company is to not pay out money. It’s a cutthroat insurance company. As soon as they know you’re a good worker they’re going to take advantage, say goodbye to your weekends. I agree... do NOT trust HR. They fudge their Great places to work survey results. I’m pretty sure they’re not even part of great places to work anymore because the results and reviews from their own employees were so bad. Basically it’s who you know in this company and who likes you. Do not bother!
