Recent Grads Beware

Pros

Paid time off is generous. Get to learn what an awful job is like. Get to learn how to work under aging middle managers and supervisors who's only remaining ambition is to coast the rest of the way to retirement while deflecting as much work as possible.

Cons

I worked at Mapfre for my first job after graduating college. The pay is laughable considering they were requiring a bachelor's degree for the job at the time. Workday consists of taking random phone calls from unhappy customers back to back, all day. Customers will generally tell you about how much they hate you, the company, and the car insurance industry for ~20 minutes before they hang up and your phone rings again. Can be closer to 40+ minutes for customers who are senile or don't speak english (this is common). You also get to decide who is at fault in car accidents! (a fourth grader could do this) Software systems in the claims department are very bad. Frustration from waiting for them to load while on calls / troubleshooting them while working will cause your blood pressure to rise permanently and probably shave a few years off of your life. If you want to get paid next to nothing to be an overworked punching bag for a greedy car insurance company then this is the job for you. Had I not found a better paying job with enjoyable work then I would probably have offed myself. To those currently still working here: stop fantasizing about quitting and just do it - the grass really is greener on the other side.

Pros

Worker bees, there are a lot of good hard-working people, they keep getting beat down.

Cons

Ageism, and sweat shop mentality. You better perform at the level they expect, if you can’t do it within 50 hours they’ll take all of your weekends. I’m pretty sure they’d want you to work from your hospital bed if they needed it. There’s some sort of employee relation team, it’s a joke, treating employees like dirt if the team doesn’t get things their way, just terrible to talk to. Using our own photos to put together videos of fun times that they had nothing to do with and act like it’s the company doing. So fake for an employee focused team. It’s the worker bees that keep things happy within their own teams, not the executive HR team. Diversity is a joke. You’d think it would start in human resources but not sure there’s any real diversity other than Spanish and they’re headquartered out of Spain so that makes sense. Is there anyone black in Human Resources or part of the executive team? Any women on the senior exec team? Don’t expect to come in here and be savvy and introduce new things, there’s a lot of big egos here and if it’s not their idea then they don’t like it, or they’ll be happy to have you do all the work and take the recognition.

Pros

Casual environment, open door policy, the human resources dept is amazing

Cons

The company does not have a current training program in place. The micro managing is a little much.
