NOT a great place to work

Pros

According to management, we should be really jazzed about the free parking and free coffee.

Cons

Management is clueless. Employees are treated like unwanted children. Employees are catching on to this and many have left for other companies. They have implemented a joke of a program called "Great places to work" in an effort to retain employees. While we have been allowed to wear sneakers and sports shirts on occasion, this program has only highlighted the fact that it is not a great place to work. Another example: while EVERYONE knows that standing is better than sitting, HR requires you to jump through hoops to get a simple, height adjustable, keyboard and monitor stand that lets you stand at your desk. Although it's common knowledge that standing is healthier than sitting, they require a note from your doctor. But that is often not good enough for HR. What makes HR think they know better than a doctor. In fact, there is an employee who went through the proper channels and was still declined while an unused stand collects dust in the nearby closet. Does this sound like a great place to work? It sounds like a cruel joke. Speaking of HR, don't believe all the positive reviews, most of those are HR trying improve the company's ratings.

Pros

Flexible hours - you have the choice of 8-4:30, 9-5:30, or 4 day weeks (though this option is limited). The company is "open" from 7-6 so you can use "flex scheduling" to come in early or late for either OT or to get your 8.5 hours in if you need to leave early or come in late. PTO time is 20 days plus 11 holidays paid. The co-workers are great - some have a negative outlook on the company however all in all it's pretty good. Great opportunities to move up, management is open to new ideas as well. The company as a whole has a great vision for their future. Excellent core values. There are Town Hall Meetings where the CEO actually makes an appearance and answers questions which is nice to see.

Cons

High work load, team call handling exists means you'll be working others' files (though they will do the same for you). When you first start there's a 3 month intensive training program, but that's not the issue. The training is almost too great, once you get out there you have to be prepared to "hit the ground running" and prove yourself. Team members typically leave at this point because it proves to be too much. My advise is to ride it out, a few months later you'll get your groove.

Thank you for taking the time to offer a review of MAPFRE Insurance. There are plenty of opportunities to move up in the company and Physical Damage is a great place to start. The training is comprehensive and making the transition to a full-time adjuster can be a challenge sometimes. We're glad you stuck it out and see a future with MAPFRE!
