Work and Culture in the Department of Lymphoma-Myeloma
Pros
There are some great doctors, staff and good people working in MD Anderson in some departments.
Cons
The following are specific to the Department of Lymphoma-Myeloma in the Division of Cancer Medicine: - No clear direction and communication from leadership (the faculty leadership is the only leadership) - Lies, accusations and gossip behind employee’s back - Unethical behavior of faculty’s leadership, no integrity , no accountability for words or actions - No respect, no support, no credit and no appreciation for good work from faculty leadership that trickles down to all employees - Decisions made arbitrarily, and with unfairness and no transparency - No open and direct feedback but with backstabbing - Political atmosphere and no team work or collaboration encouraged - Conviction without trial and Management by threat - No developmental feedback throughout the year - Toxic environment by allowing certain employees their toxic behavior with no consequences which makes a fear-of-speaking-up work environment that lacks psychological safety - Putting people down instead of helping them be successful - Discrimination and retaliation from faculty leadership - Micromanagement and lack of empowerment to make decisions and have autonomy in one’s job Team supervisors and managers are not allowed to do their supervisory job more than 25% of their time - No support from direct reports and no support from faculty leadership, no support from the departmental administration; competitions between different teams and employees and faculty - Retaliation by faculty leadership against employees for doing the right thing and for doing their job - The HR department is supporting only the faculty leadership no matter who is at fault or if the employee did the right thing. I do not advise anyone to accept a position in this department.
