Pros

The company tries to promote a good work life balance. Projects are interesting and constantly changing. Flat structure, competitive, great HR and benefits.

Cons

You have to work hard to distinguish yourself from everyone else. Good managers are few and far between. Most managers micromanage and are not technical enough to effectively evaluate risks.

Pros

The association with MIT gives immediate credibility to the staff.

Cons

Interestingly the vast majority of staff are not MIT graduates. Lincoln Lab management is poor; groups are responsible for finding their own funding, so that research becomes subordinate to marketing. Expect to spend quite a bit of time using PowerPoint to put together presentations to attract sponsors, or work on many different projects at the whim of the group office. The previous director bought into the GE (Jack Welch) management philosophy, i.e., fire the bottom 10% and ignore the middle 80%. The current administration has not changed course significantly, These management policies are ill-suited for a research lab; it's best days are appear to behind it.

Pros

Had a great summer. Group was very supportive of my education, and got exposure to a lot of cutting edge technology. Was challenged.

Cons

High security demands took a while to get used to, definitely put me on edge for a while.

We are very pleased that you had a great summer and we hope that you will keep us in mind as your career plans evolve. Our summer intern programs have been the launching pad for some great careers. The nature of our work mandates that we be serious about security. There are many examples of companies who have relaxed security and have paid a price. We are very proud to have been chosen as one of few facilities with a superior security rating. It can take come time to get used to but eventually becomes an engrained part of the work day.
