Pros

A comfortable, 9-5 job with excellent benefits. A bit of freedom to find solutions to problems using your expertise.

Cons

Shallow management structure with little room to grow. You can put in a lot of extra effort with little compensation. There are interesting projects, but you need to find them.

It is nice too see that you found the freedom to find solutions while you were at the Lab. We do have a flat structure that many employees find advantageous as it streamlines decision making and provides more ready access to management. Operating as a meritocracy has been a long time strength of Lincoln Laboratory and will continue to be a focus. Thank you for your observation.

Great for tech staff

Pros

The lab is a hub of brilliant minds with great benefits and work-life balance.

Cons

There is a divide between technical and support staff. Support staff are often looked down upon or treated poorly....not to mention the noncompetitive salaries of hose support positions.

Thank you for taking the time to provide a review. As you have probably seen, senior management is very actively engaged in working to build an inclusive environment, including increasing the presence of women in senior roles. Notably, the Chief Technology Officer is a woman and the ranks of women in group leadership are increasing. As a technology oriented company sometimes support roles may not seem to get the credit they may deserve. As an enterprise we recognize that we all succeed when all aspects of the organization are performed with an eye toward excellence. I hope that you will discuss your concerns with the appropriate contacts.

Pros

The quality of the work that is available is very high and keeps working challenging and stimulating. The technical proficiency of the coworkers is outstanding. It is easy to find an expert in any relevant field.

Cons

The pay scale is inversely proportional to the quality of the tasks. The pay scales are not in line with the rest of the industry. While technical problems are handled with great skill, personnel problems and management skills leave a lot to be desired.

We are pleased that you found the work here of high quality and the staff proficiency outstanding. As a not for profit, government funded Laboratory, there are some compensation considerations that are not found in industry. Our salaries are generally competitive with industry and are complemented by an excellent benefits program. Operating with no profit motivation is beneficial in pursuing the best available solution.
