Pros

Very easygoing PI. Gave me the opportunity to learn a lot and was very forgiving with my mistakes. Work itself was very interesting. Great Culture!!

Cons

Work schedule was a little erratic. Was not really directly taught much and I felt like some projects were a little overwhelming.

Pros

One of the top research universities in the world. Colleagues are some of the smartest people in the world. Lots of funding.

Cons

Very mentally and psychologically taxing. Hours are long with little immediate reward. Administration often only pays lip service to the well-being of the students.

Pros

MIT is full of smart people, which has obvious benefits, and being a graduate can be fun in that you get to pursue your own interests without upper level management breathing down your neck

Cons

At least on my project, there is little to no project management. Professors are too busy to be involved day to day, and professional staff at my lab does not have the technical knowledge to be effective. This leaves leadership in the hands of the students, which has resulted in scattered and sometimes misguided research, with little cohesion
