Pros

I worked in MIT Sloan and was given a nearly limitless budget for experimentation. The difference between this and typical universities purses was highly significant.

Cons

MIT bureaucracy is similar to government (many levels of redundancy) - making it sometimes difficult to do things outside of the box (especially when they deal with making or spending money).

Pros

Wonderful work-life balance. I was allowed to work from home as needed, the vacation schedule is very generous. Not much overtime expected. A lot of freedom in getting the job done - a great place for independently-minded workers. MIT is a fun place! The staff gets to participate in many of the events and extra-curricular activities for students such as the sailing club, MIT fitness center, etc. Food trucks. Enough said.

Cons

In most academic support roles there is no clear career path. This makes it tricky to progress in a career if you're in administration.
