Pros

Stipends for graduate students are higher than other places. Funding generally lasts for 5 years if you are in a PhD program. There are many opportunities to get funding for research through the university.

Cons

Work conditions vary dramatically depending on the lab and department. Graduate students work hard for little pay and have a lot of uncertainty about whether they will find an academic position even with a PhD.

Pros

MIT's reputation stands on it's own, but it's really the everyday people who work there that keep it going.

Cons

There are often times when the amount of work to do outpaces the number of people necessary for the job. This means that you may be quite stressed out and feel isolated at times.
