Pros

Good vacation time and other benefits for staff; Education is valued.

Cons

Faculty rule but have no boundaries or policies to follow. PHDs are valued over others with expertise. Not very business minded

Pros

Innovative, off-the-beaten path spirit, management (in my department) really does strive for transparency, staff feedback for major decisions (hiring leadership, changes to policy or space planning) are encouraged and solicited. Great people on staff: smart, friendly, supportive, for the most part love what they do. Just a great culture to be a part of.

Cons

This is academia, so if you want to move forward, you pretty much wait for someone to a.) leave or b.) retire. I've only been here for about 2 years so maybe I'm impatient, but yes, I am frustrated that in that time, no attainable opportunities for promotion have opened up. Also, the campus is dotted with really ugly sculptural art. It's like, REALLY ugly. Why??
