Pros

Boyden Lab. A lot of freedom. Ideally should align with PI. If not, will be big headache. Pre-structure your meetings. Fun if you like to think about ideas. Pi can connect you to anyone - is a great resource.

Cons

Possibly not enough guidance and hands on time with the PI - if you need that. Writing process can drag on for a very long time. Need to learn how to best communicate with the PI - pick your battles.

Pros

Pension, 401k, great healthcare, great benefits and they have programs to help employees during tough times. I love MIT and I have worked for over 40 years in my field at BMC, Joslin, Children’s and MIT best by far.

Cons

Sometimes the department you work in isn’t great but the way MIT treats me, makes up for it
