Pros

The company provides a good balance of work and family, freedom to telecommute, good retirement plan, and good work place ethics.

Cons

It is very difficult to obtain projects and experience outside your immediate area of expertise. The work sometimes involves too much powerpoint-jockeying and there is too little involvement with real engineering research & development.

Pros

Keep a happy face and you'll be fine. Go along and get along is easy enough. Great if you like constant change and highly "dynamic" environments. As a manager, you will not be held accountable if you are modestly clever.

Cons

MITRE doesn't pay competitively for some sites; site work is just that work any other contractor is likely to handle. MITRE doesn't maintain "differentiation" as its core values would lead you to believe. No longer refuses work that isn't "MITRE work". Very limited capability to perform middle-management functions, while counter-intuitively being very top heavy in senior personnel. Poor communication and flexible ethics can be found in some parts of MITRE.

Pros

Diverse types of work; many project areas; diverse sponsors; flexible hours; telecommuting opportunities; educational opportunities; information sharing; access to data; important national issues. MITRE offers educational and advancement opportunities for entry-level people to mid-career people to military or other retirees, and focuses on tailoring the opportunities to the needs of the individual. People are not 'pigeon-holed' to work in specific areas, as is the case in many industrial organizations, but have the flexibility to support other parts of the company if there is mutual benefit.

Cons

Mid-level managers work on technical projects rather than managing; some types of work restricted by FFRDC requirements
