Only way to get promoted is to go into management Managers are really unskilled at management as they are all promoted technical people

Pros

Chance to work on very high-tech software and other system technologies. Good industry benefits and on-site facilities (dining, health center, library, etc.). Good emphasis on continued technical education on latest technologies.

Cons

Work and employment status highly dependent on whims of Congressional funding (when it dies up, so does your job). Being a large organization, politics can be an issue at times.
