Bad Recruiting Methods

Pros

Not really a great place to work unless you come in on a funded project. Otherwise you get paid by “overhead” and if you are on that too long they fire you. So if you interview here, make sure you are coming in on a funded project.

Cons

Their recruiting was horrible. I’m a 5G/Cellular person and they brought me in as an “expert” in this space but they forgot to tell me that I would have to start looking for a funded project (more interviews) once in. That was outrageous as I already had a nice job at Vz but I fell for their lines about how rewarding it is to make a difference in people’s lives. The only problem was that I came in and was immediately being paid via overhead budget. Unbelievable how they snookered me.

Pros

good people, interesting work, excellent retirement matching, good benefits despite recent cuts to PTO

Cons

I am updating a previous review with more information. My opinion on MITRE and its corporate officers has not improved: on the contrary, I'm bewildered that everyone in the C-suite still has their jobs. The CEO is tone deaf, condescending, and completely out of touch with his employees. The latest examples of this are: ** A CEO podcast in which he expressed surprise that employees were worried about cuts, stating that he was not aware of any cuts. This was less than a month after PTO cuts to 1/3 of the staff and a reduction in force of about 25 people. ** A new security policy where he, and he alone, is allowed to walk around the building without a badge, and security has been instructed not to challenge him. Literally everyone else must wear a badge. ** A later CEO podcast in which he and his interviewer commiserated that poor reviews on this website can bring morale down, without addressing the concerns brought up in those reviews, which mostly revolve around him and the rest of the C-suite. Employees were told that an all-hands in April would be followed by a CEO call in which we could ask questions about what we'd heard. That CEO call was canceled and has not been rescheduled. Since then, over the summer, there have been 2 more rounds of layoffs that I know of: in admin and finance. I say "that I know of" because these were not announced to the corporation at large in any way. All information comes through gossip because the C-suite is completely silent on the issues. I am hoping that our board of directors is finally pulling their heads out of the sand and taking action to address these issues, but my hopes are not terribly high, as they have appeared disinclined to take any action to date.
