Pros

Collaborative, open, sharing environment. You really do have the option to create your own career path. There are a lot of very smart people at MTRE.

Cons

Research program is a bit overhyped. It's more like a post-doc place to go for people who have a hard time fitting into a regular work force. Frequent reorganizations to create more higher level positions. Has a bit of an inverted project management structure where more junior people can lead projects and the senior people become very expensive individual contributors.

Pros

Benefits are great including both medical plan and 401k

Cons

Many of the people I work with think they are highly technical but when compared to actual engineering positions they are really not that technically strong.

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback. We’re pleased to hear that you enjoy the benefits that MITRE offers its employees. We listened to employee and manager feedback about the performance and development process and hope that the new process we implemented this year will help improve what wasn’t working as well with our previous system.

MITRE losing it way

Pros

as an FFRDC (actually a holding company for multiple FFRDCs), MITRE _should_ appeal to technologists who are willing to sacrifice top-end wages for a job where they can have an impact (bad taste word when it comes to MITRE's FAA sponsor :-)) on government programs. opps, that doesn't sound all that "pro".

Cons

Under CEO Al Grasso and his push for "business" in non-DoD "customers", in the opinion of many MITRE employees, MITRE has lost it way. Now it is unlikely that a manager would walk away from "non-MITRE work". Has MITRE become just another Beltway Bandit? Sadly, the answer seems to be yes, unless Grasso chooses founding principles over his "lunch bunch"'s desire to follow in the footsteps of former CEO Barry "The Barry" Horowitz (sp?).
