Pros

Work-life balance. Everything else that was a pro in the past has changed and is now a con.

Cons

-Senior mgmt (including CEO) are totally out of touch -Too many arm-chair quarterbacks who like to tell you what you are doing wrong, but couldn't do the work if they had to (especially in Cyber and security arenas). -No clear strategy to fix the morale free-fall -Cut healthcare benefits options to the point they are poor at best -MITRE loves to ride a single project to its death. Used to be CVE, then STIX/TAXII, now ATTACK. We are not a one-trick pony. Stop and look around at all the other things going on within the company. Stop selling your soul to vendors.

Pros

Variety of projects Ability to work to telework Some challenging work

Cons

Need to find your own work within the company. Stove-piped engineering methods. Lack of empowerment to employees from management . Promotions and work opportunities are all about your network- this is problematic as it can easily fall into "my buddy" network.

Pros

The benefits are still good.

Cons

The organization’s culture and reputation are in decline, accelerated by the implementation of the MITRE Way (MW). Its bifurcated management structure eliminates accountability and promotes “takers”. The practice of immediate promotion potential was a beacon for the overly ambitious. The poseurs realized that taking credit for a team’s work is not only acceptable, it is commendable. Consequently, staff with limited technical and domain bona fides are moving into roles for which they are ill-equipped. When these folks fail, they are moved to safe staff jobs versus being demoted and sent back to work programs. Finally, the latest MW ”feature” - co-department heads and technical directors – totally ends accountability and merely adds to the appearance of everyone gets a prize. Why not take this to its logical conclusion and have co-VPs and SVPs?
